Today, fashion is a force that is inflicted on the body. Its symbolism and significance are
more than just aesthetic; they have also played a role in many critical historical movements
and evolutions. Fashion takes its power from tradition, past and custom to build figures that
are culturally appropriate and convey the desired message. It is, before everything else, a
way to communicate, a new language that helps groups of people to claim their convictions
and revolt against an authoritative power or a context of social injustice.
FASHION IS POLITICS, FASHION IS HUMOUR, FASHION IS ENGAGEMENT,
FASHION IS FREEDOM, FASHION IS EVERYTHING YOU WANT AND TRUST
IN, FASHION IS NOT EVEN VISIBLE. IT IS A WAY OF THINKING THE BODY—
YOUR WAY OF THINKING YOUR BODY.
In the last two volumes, I researched inspirations and discovered traditions and customs
from primitive societies to the high courts of Western countries. This book will describe
the influence and power that fashion has wielded over social life. The importance of image
in our society originates in a great deal of upheaval produced by continuous changes in
clothing. In our history, we always tried to liberate the body from the pressure, domination
and prejudice instilled by society over many years.
At first, clothing had a functional aspect: it was intended to cover, hide, or protect the body.
After many centuries of influences and political changes, clothing has evolved and also has
the capacity to fit the zeitgeist or challenge it. Clothes were once adapted to the body, but in
the fashion of the present day I observe the opposite situation. The body must be adapted
to the clothing and fit a model of almost sublime perfection in beauty and style. Perhaps we
are even becoming slaves to fashion and attractiveness.
This phenomenon in fashion leads me to wonder about the present situation. We have
sustained many revolutions and abolitions to gain independence in our life and body. What
new change might we be awaiting? My project is directed towards this new revolution.
